thank you Pete for your excellent article. As a professional headshot company, we get asked a lot of questions about Good / Bad Photos. You addressed most of the issues. One more suggestion I've read is that if you have a bad/party photo out there (1) counterbalance it with the best, most professional photo possible of you and (2) if someone else posted a bad/party picture of you, go back to that person and ask that they remove the photo from their original album - and don't take no for an answer.

@Sharalyn

This is exactly what I am trying to advocate. Using social media is a great tool to try and find a job but even better to become a thought leader or expert in your field. It should be used to make connections and find other people interested in things that you enjoy.

Uploading pictures is great but won't get you anywhere unless you're a photographer. Everyone needs their own personal professional website so they can be found easily when searched as a supplement to their resume.

I really like all your suggestions. To be perfectly honest, I think we should be doing all that regardless of whether we are trying to network or land a job through social media. Hopefully we are all more dimensional than to only have pictures and things to say from parties. Great insights. I linked this blog post to a column I did on for the online newspaper Examiner.com. Thanks for the help and insight!
