@Shereen

Im glad you enjoyed the post and found it useful. I dont know if LinkedIn will ever surpass Facebook but it would be great if it came close.

@Tracey

I agree, those are just social sites that have huge amounts of users and that are up and coming. Obviously myspace isnt the best place to create an online presence, but services like friendster are great ways to aggregate and manage all your networks.

@Nick

To each their own. You only get out of these social networks, the amount of effort you put into them. Some dont require to much effort but the right interactions and networking skills.

Your right it is important to create a strong online presence. But I find the social networks you listed to be more for those "looking for a good time" or "for fun" sites. At least the first two, in my experience that is. I would also add another site while it is new to the market I think it is a great place to start your online presence.

I recently joined LinkedIn and so far I have found the site very useful. As the focus for many people becomes more on professional networks, LinkedIn will continue to grow and surpass social networks like Facebook. It is a great way to reconnect with colleagues, former employers or simply connect with people that you aspire to work with day.

The points listed above are very useful. Great post!
